Scholarship
Do you know a student in their second year (or higher) of a post-secondary journalism or agriculture program? If so, chances are they could use some financial assistance. Help out by telling them about the J.R. (Tim) Armstrong Memorial Bursary Fund administered through BC Farm Writers’ Association. This annual bursary provides at least one student per year with $1,000 to assist with the expenses of their studies.
The bursary was created through contributions from BCFWA and like-minded individuals to honour Armstrong’s outstanding contributions to BC journalism and the agriculture industry as a long-time publisher and editor of a long-standing BC agriculture publication. For the past 40 years, students have received bursaries based on strong academic performance, financial need and a commitment to their chosen field.
In 2021, thanks to a reduction in travel expenses due to COVID, two students received financial gifts. One of the students is working towards a professional agrologist designation while the other is pursuing a career in the beef industry. Both will be contributing towards a more sustainable, robust agricultural future for BC and Canada. Previous recipients have spanned the gamut of agriculture and journalism. Their common theme has been a desire to see the world be a better place as they grow and thrive in their chosen careers, like Rosina Rodighiero, a mature student completing her regenerative agriculture education when she was the 2020 fund recipient.
Applying is easy. Go to www.bcfwa.ca/bursary--links.html for the complete details, but don’t delay as the application deadline is December 31, 2021.
