The BC Fresh Market Grape Growers are recruiting for a Field Service Person.
This is part-time contract position.
Background Information
These growers oversee an annual program of packaging, quality assurance, marketing and coordination of the harvest and sale of BC Fresh Market Grapes.
Position Summary
The Field Service position is part-time, with the majority of the work taking place in the Kelowna area during a six-week period around harvest; usually mid August through to October. The Field Service Person is also needed throughout the year to respond to growers’ horticultural enquiries.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaison between the growers and the sales agency - promote and ensure clear communication between the growers, the packinghouses and the sales agency.
- Coordinate packaging with the growers, the group's program manager and the sales agency.
- Direct growers to make the best decisions possible for their crop. Advocate helping to resolve problems as they occur.
- Inform growers regarding new registrations, protocols and packaging.
- Problem-solve packaging issues.
- Promote grower compliance with the On Farm Food Safety program and assist with resolving any discrepancies or issues.
- Perform pre-harvest inspections. Check for maturity, colour, sugar level and possible problems with mildew or insects.
- Attend all grower meetings throughout the year to participate in discussions with the growers to help ensure that the program is operating as efficiently as possible.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills demonstrated in diplomacy. Problem-solving, time flexibility and exceptional knowledge in the following areas:
- On Farm Food Safety Program
- The most common diseases, insects, and recognized cultural practices for fresh market grapes.
- Farm safe work practices in the grape industry.
Remuneration
Wage/salary will be based on experience and will be discussed with the successful candidate at the final interview.
