Western Canada’s largest agriculture event, The Pacific Agriculture Show, will take place January 24th to 26th, 2019 at the Tradex Centre in Abbotsford. This year’s new addition, Cannatech West, brings together leading cannabis experts to talk about hot topics in the industry, including the future of growing cannabis in B.C.
“With cannabis revenues projected to add $22.6 billion to our economy, Canadian farmers want to be apart of this new dimension of agriculture” said Jim Shepard, Founder of the Pacific Agriculture Show. “We’re seeing growing demand from both distributors and growers to better educate themselves on the best practices as we navigate this new sector. From production to sustainability to complying with Health Canada, Cannatech will provide impactful information to help B.C. producers take part.”
This year the Pacific Agriculture Show will also be introducing new seminars, activities and speakers to the public. Highlights include:
- Farming Fun for the Family Bring the family down for a some good ol’ farming fun. This includes activations like cowboy stilt walkers, a Bobcat square dance, a petting zoo, and life-size Jenga. Get your camera ready for photo opps! When: Thursday to Saturday | 9am-4pm
- Agri-Tourism as a Diversification Tool for BC Family Farms In today’s challenging market, B.C. farmers are turning to agri-tourism to diversify. Nicole Vaugeois from Vancouver Island University will share how small farms can reinvent their business and enter the tourism market. When: Friday, January 25th | 1-5pm
- New Blueberry Varieties with Potential for BC B.C. is the world’s No. 2 producer of blueberries. This important export is about to expand, as Eric Gerbrandt from Sky Blue Horticulture shares new varieties that are currently growing in field trials across the Fraser Valley. When: Saturday, January 26th | 10-10:30am
- Craft Brewing in BC B.C. is the birthplace of craft beer in Canada. With 160 breweries throughout the province, experts will share the status of craft brewing and what we can expect from the industry, including CBD and botanical infused beers. When: Saturday, January 26th | 10:30am-11am
- Rules! Rules! And more Rules! As consumer demand for organic food grows, so does the confusion over what it means to be certified organic. Renee Prasad of the Certified Organic Associations of BC will address new changes and regulations. When: Saturday, January 26 | 10-10:30am
